Save-A-Lot offers a quick and convenient streamlined experience. They only stock the products consumers need most so you can get in, get what you need, and check out quickly. The also offer some incredible pricing – up to 40% off every day.
It's always nice to be in a brand new store. It's all clean and shiny. However, this new Springfield location actually features a store design with more aisle space to make shopping easier. It was easy to maneuver the cart and I didn't feel overcrowded navigating the aisles. With all the space to move around I didn't get that frustration that so often occurs while trying to get through your shopping list on a Sunday afternoon.
This was my first visit to a Save-A-Lot and at first I was underwhelmed by the size. My initial thought was that there was no way the store could offer everything I needed on my list. However, the store offers fresh-cut meat, fresh produce, and all the basics you need to feed a family for a week. The low prices offered on their own exclusive brands and national brands really add up. Plus, all of the items come with a 100% money back guarantee. If any product doesn't meet your satisfaction, you can just return it to be replaced or reimbursed. So there's no risk in trying some of the brands you may be unfamiliar with.
Some items are even cheaper than the dollar stores! These are not weekly sale prices, these are every day prices:
Iodized salt $.49 (26 ounces)
Canola or Vegetable oil $1.89 (quart)
Baking soda $.59
Canned beans (kidney, black eyed peas, black beans, garbanzos, etc). starting at $.59
White sandwich bread $.75
Iceberg lettuce head $.99
Green peppers $.89
Jarred spices and seasonings for $.99 (Cinnamon sticks for the holidays are only $1.29!)
Canned, condensed soup $.49
Oval foil roaster pans $.99 (I already stocked up for Thanksgiving!)
50 foot roll of wax paper $.99
100-count Acetaminophen tablets $2.49
And, are you ready for this? Milk: $1.85/gallon. That's skim, 1%, 2%, and whole milk. For. Only. $1.85.
Also in love with these giant gallon tubs of ice cream for only $3.99:
Or these amazing looking Market Selections take-and-bake pizzas for only $5.99:
I especially appreciate that with prices this low it's so easy to toss an extra item or two in your cart and donate to a local food bank. You really can see a lot of savings here even if you just stock up on canned goods your family uses often, or baking supplies. You can find all of the weekly deals by checking out the weekly ad on the Save-A-Lot website.
"How do they keep prices so low?" you're asking yourself. Save-A-Lot offers an edited assortment of grocery items -- approximately 1,800 products. By offering what customers buy most often they can reduce the need for space and eliminate slow moving products from their distribution. Shoppers can save up to 40% on each shopping trip without the hassle of price matching or coupons (although coupons are still welcome).
A few other things to note about the Save-A-Lot experience: BYOB -- Bring Your Own Bag. You will be responsible for bagging your own groceries in your own bags or you can purchase paper or plastic ones on site for $.06 each. Also, don't forget a quarter to "rent" a shopping cart. You'll get your quarter deposit back when you return your cart to the lineup at the end of your shopping trip. (A few more ways the chain saves money and can thereby pass those savings on to consumers).
The new Springfield location can be found in the Breckwood Shopping Center at 1060 Wilbraham Road. You can reach the store by calling 413-783-0102.

Although this is a brand new Save-A-Lot location, the chain has been focusing on customer service since 1977. With holiday meals and baking right around the corner this is a great time to check out all this store has to offer.
