Who doesn't love beautiful family portraits? Capturing those special memories that tell our stories. And who doesn't love affordable, quality photography even more? Allow me to introduce Hillary Boutin -- a new Western Mass-based photographer on the scene who's ready to help you capture all of those milestones that make life incredible.
Boutin, of Ludlow, is excited to announce her new photography business that specializes in family milestones -- Hillary Lynn Photography.
As a Mom, photography has been a passion of Hillary's for years while capturing shots of her own family and although she started taking clients professionally about nine months ago, she's finally ready to go full force with her new business and wants to celebrate by hosting a giveaway! Visit her Facebook page and you can enter to win a FREE family session with 15 digital images!
"I was always passionate about taking photos of my three children and pets and I'm just about to finish up a degree in business management and advertising at Westfield State in May and I thought 'what do I want to do?'" Hillary said. "So I've decided to make the photography my full-time professional priority."
Hillary, who's kids are now 14, 12, and 8 years old, is like a lot of us who are looking for a 'second act' now that our kids don't need us to be quite so hands-on.
"My kids don't need me too much anymore so I started looking forward at my future and thinking about what I want to do. I've always loved advertising and marketing and business management and as I naturally started doing more photography I realized I can do this for a business!"
Hillary loves to focus on families -- her specialties include portraits: head shots, family portraits, engagements, and seniors; maternity shoots, in-hospital newborn photos and at-home lifestyle newborn photos; cake smashes and other mini sessions throughout the year to celebrate seasons and holidays. With both an indoor studio and a passion for outdoor shoots in natural light, Hillary Lynn Photography can help your ideal shoot come to life.
"I try to be flexible and accommodating. I definitely like to be creative and fun with props and poses but also have a classic style," she said.
Especially accommodating, Hillary tries to keep her pricing reasonable (a 60-90 minute family portrait session with 25 edited images and full printing rights is only $150) as she knows how important it is to moms and families to have quality photos of their important memories.
"The reason I picked up the camera in the first place is because professional portraits are so expensive and as a Mom I wanted to capture all of the moments," she said. "It's so important to have family pictures. I don't want to price families out of having memories captured."
Although Hillary's package pricing is super affordable, if you're looking to save even more, you can subscribe to her online newsletter and receive 10% off your session.
Some of us might have family members who are resistant to having their photo taken (I won't mention any names oldest daughter of mine) and Hillary has some good advice for reluctant posers.
"For kids that do not want their pictures taken it's important that parents act really casual about coming in. Just keep it light and casual and let me do my thing. I can make those kids laugh even if they're not enthused about the idea."
The takeaway? Parents -- don't make a big deal about. Just come in really relaxed and let the kids know everyone is going to have some fun. There's also the option to fill out a pre-shoot questionnaire so she'll know how to approach your child and help them feel more comfortable.
"I use prompts to break the ice. I might pose a family and then ask 'who has the stinkiest feet in your family?' and everyone laughs."
"Lots of people feel awkward when being posed for photos but when you're silly it makes a natural reaction. Natural expressions are always the goal," she said.
Hillary prides herself on being flexible and ready to work with any idea. She's willing to work around nap schedules, meet at different locations and do whatever is necessary to help capture your moments.
"I love talking to people and helping people celebrate their big and small milestones. I just love to be able to work with people and learn about them and help them tell their stories," she said.
Although Hillary is busy launching this new business and finishing up her degree, her first calling will always be Mom. Like most of us she says, "You can find me driving back and forth all over town. My favorite hangout is my car." Like most of us, her kids do sports, play instruments, participate in dance. But in those moments in the day when here kiddos don't need her, she's grateful to have found a way to weave her education, hobby and life experience into this new business that is her passion.
"I've never been so happy and excited to work every day. The journey that brought me here is something I'm really proud of. Life is more than just having a job. I've found my passion from my hobby and I'm so excited to share that with everyone."
